Biography
Tamara Anderson is a talented, versatile vocalist who is also a well known and respected voice teacher. She has a wicked sense of humor and an uncanny ability to captivate her audiences. Her colorful musical background that includes work as a recording artist, radio and television voice-overs (including medical narration), jingles (McDonalds, Mattel Toys, John Deere and FedEx) studio production and talent development. Tamara works with numerous recording and touring artists, both on major and independent labels, and her students perform coast-to-coast at major music venues and theaters, they win awards, and get the leads. Not only does she teach state-of-the art Grammy Award winning vocal techniques, but also provides her own vocals and vocal arrangements to numerous recording projects. Tamara is the teacher and vocalist called upon by the most recognized recording studios in Chicagoland, as well as local theatre groups (including the nationally syndicated Christian Youth Network Theater Group) and musical theater performers for PM&L Theater, Woodstock Theater and The Kirk Players.
Tamara started competing and winning vocal competitions at nine years of age. She played violin as a child, and discovered guitar at the age of 11. As a teenager, Tamara started performing as a lead singer and rhythm guitarist with a live local touring band. She has since won numerous awards including, ‘The Lake County Fair Talent Show’, TCI Cable’s ‘Best of Lake County Vocal Performance’, ‘Karaoke Nitelife Soloist and Duet Winner’, ‘STAR 105.5 Soloist Winner’ and the list goes on. She has been a featured singer on numerous occasions for the critically acclaimed Chicago based and nationally syndicated ‘Chick Singer Night’, as well as the ‘Singer Spotlight', 'The Local Vocal Jazz Brew’, and ‘The Vocal Venue’. These shows are by invitation and audition only and have also featured her as the headliner for their anniversary events. Tamara has performed live on the radio for The Loop with Danny Bonaduce, WXRT with Terri Hemmert, WIIL with Phil and Joanie, and WCBR. She has also judged talent shows, karaoke contests and Miss Illinois Beauty Pageants, and has been a guest speaker for several music organizations including The Singer’s Conference, WAMI (Wisconsin Area Musician’s Industry) and KRAMI (Kenosha/Racine Area Musician’s Industry).
Tamara continues to attend and teach several workshops
yearly so she can maintain her cutting-edge vocal techniques. She had the rare opportunity to complete an intense recording engineering workshop with world-class sound engineers and producers of the legendary Criteria Studios in Miami, Florida, home of over 300 Gold and Platinum albums. In addition to formal training in college where she continues to work towards her Doctorate in Music, Tamara continues to study with the best voice teachers available from California to New York. She is well-versed in several vocal pedagogies including but not limited to:
- Speech Level Singing Master Class, directed and founded by Seth Riggs of Beverly Hills, California (who has taught over 115 Grammy Award winning vocalists)
- The Natural Singer, directed and founded by Claude Stein of New York City (who has taught many Grammy Award winners)
- Katie Agresta of New York City (who has taught over 35 Grammy Award Winners)
- The Progressive Singer’s Workshop, directed and founded by Tamara Anderson herself
Not only has she attended these workshops on several occasions, she has sponsored these and brought them to Chicagoland on several occasions over the years. She is also well educated in improvisational and theater techniques as they pertain to vocal performance. Collectively, all of her teachers have taught more than 150 Grammy Award winning singers.
Tamara founded ‘The Singer’s Conference’, was the co-founder of ‘What a Voice! Productions, Inc.’, She was the Executive Producer of ‘Chicago Inside Out’; a critically acclaimed weekly entertainment show that aired on TCI Cable. Tamara was chosen to be the Talent Coordinator and Judge for the recently aired Round Lake Variathon (Variety) Show, sponsored by AT&T. She has been published in Karaoke Nitelife magazine with monthly articles based on ‘The Progressive Singer’s Workshop’ experience, where she shared her state-of-the-art Grammy Award winning vocal techniques. She is currently teaching Master Vocal Classes for Columbia College in Chicago.
Tamara has written and produced her debut Inspirational CD ‘Unlimited Love’ and was placed in the top 10 for two prestigious singer/songwriting awards sponsored by Shure Microphones and Alesis. You can hear her vocals on several live performances with great artists such as Ralph Covert of ‘The Bad Examples’, the Dove Award winning ‘The Rex Carroll Band’, and several independent label releases and critically acclaimed artist CDs including Kraig Kenning’s ‘Every Precious Moment’ and ‘Maktub’, The Houndz ‘Baby Boomers’ and many more…
Tamara is married to Russell Anderson,
a very talented studio drummer and live artist. They have a beautiful and vocally talented 15 year old daughter, Amber Nicole Anderson, who was the first “Chicklett” to sing at Chick Singer Night at the ripe old age of 12. Amber also performed for Singer Spotlight Jr,
and was invited to sing several times at a later date at the Adult Singer
Spotlight due to the strength of her previous performances--another first.
When Tamara is not teaching or singing, you will find her competing
with her beautiful multiple Grand Champion (and very cool) American
Quarter Horse “Java”, or her equally cool Grand Champion Paint Mare
“Holly”.
